Seas the Day

The Inspiration

Miriam Payne and Jess Rowe are currently undertaking their biggest challenge yet, an 8,000 mile row of the Pacific ocean. Starting in Peru, South America, they are rowing non-stop and unsupported to Australia.

Seas the Day Pacific Ocean Rum is inspired by Miriam and Jess and there record breaking attempt to row the pacific Ocean.

Miriam Payne, from a landlocked area of Yorkshire, hadn't been at sea until she rowed the Atlantic solo in 2022 in record time. With a degree in Physics with Astrophysics, she found she didn't quite have the temperament for academia so has since embarked on a life of adventure. Growing up on the family farm, she thrived in the outdoors. In college she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, sparking her passion for adventurous exploits.
Jess Rowe, from Hampshire, is an adventurer passionate about the outdoors. She’s rowed the Atlantic, hiked England’s South West Coast Path, climbed Mount Kenya, and cycled across Spain. With seven years spent in yachting, she now supports navigation onboard superyachts globally, whilst working in her office based role in Chichester.
In April 2025 Seas the Day embarked on an adventure of epic proportions. They are attempting to row non stop and unsupported across the Pacific Ocean. It is a journey that will take them in excess of 8,000 miles as they traverse the wild waters between Peru and Australia.

Ocean Rowing has given Miriam and Jess so much and they wanted to celebrate their Pacific Ocean Rowing attempt by creating Seas the Day Pacific Ocean Rum. A rum reflecting the immense challenge they have set themselves.

The Ocean Rowers Rum

The British Royal Navy introduced a daily rum ration, known as a "tot," in 1731. This ration was given to sailors as a reward for their hard labor, a morale boost, and even as a form of medicine.

Initially, the rum ration was given out neat, but it was later mixed with water to create "grog".

The last day of the rum ration in the Royal Navy was July 28, 1970, and it is now known as "Black Tot Day".
